Free Halloween fun
Sat 02 Nov 2019
The Concourse Shopping Centre is to be turned into a freaky fun zone for Halloween, with a host of free activities for families – plus a prize for the best fancy dress.
The spooky storytime will see Halloween characters - Wicked Witch, Sneaky Pete the Pirate, Fey the Forest Fairy and Maleficent – telling stories around the shopping centre on Saturday, November 2, between 11am and 1pm.
The story will revolve around the fairies, who have stolen the Enchanted Sword from Sneaky Pete the Pirate, who kept using it for all his own gain and evil deeds. Maleficent, queen of the fairies, teams up with the Wicked Witch to try to resolve the problems in her kingdom.
Each character will tell their side of the story and will also be getting children to dance and take part in other fun activities. Families can also collect different items such as spiders, jewels and flowers, which will go into a cauldron in Centre Square, so they can create a spell that will make everyone happy again.
As well as the storytime, Max Spielmann will also be taking photographs with a free print, for each participating family, plus free facepainting and a free chocolate treat.
Jennifer Burnett, marketing manager at The Concourse Shopping Centre, said: “We love hosting special family events and Halloween is a great excuse to dress up and have fun. With storytime and games happening, there’ll be plenty of things to enjoy here for a couple of hours.”
Fancy dress is positively encouraged – and the best-dressed will win a £30 Concourse Shopping Centre shopping voucher.
It starts and ends in the East Square, on the grass, where the facepainters and Max Spielmann will join Fey the Forest Fairy. Wicked Witch will be located on the ground floor atrium, behind Domino’s, while Sneaky Pete the Pirate will be telling his story in the West Square in front of the underwater mural. Maleficent will be performing her story in the Concourse Market Hall Community Kiosk.
Summer fun activities continue
Fri 23 Aug 2019
Families are being invited to free, fun events at the summer pop-up park at the Concourse Shopping Centre next week.
The indoor pop-up park, which has been installed at Concourse Shopping Centre’s East Square, near Wilko, is a large chill-out area, decked out in artificial grass, with deckchairs, grass sofa, bench and beanbags.
Next Thursday (August 29 2019), there will be a bug hunt and crafts session between 10am and 2pm, when visitors can look out for different bugs hiding around the centre, with prizes for completed entries. They can also create a snail, butterfly and flower from craft materials to take home.
It’s all about flower power on Friday, August 30, when craft lovers can get involved in a flower headband making workshop, taking place between noon and 1.30pm, in conjunction with Blossoms House of Flowers.
On Saturday, August 31, there will be a party in the Concourse Park, complete with circus skills workshop, where youngsters can try their hand at plate spinning, stilts, diabalos and more, plus a DJ playing great party tunes from 10am until 2pm.
Jennifer Burnett, retail marketing manager at the Concourse Shopping Centre, said: “We’ve hosted lots of great activities this summer at our fun, pop-up park and many customers have enjoyed just chilling in the deckchairs. As the summer holidays draw to a close, we’re organising three more activities for all the family to enjoy. There’s no need to book, just turn up and take part.”
The pop-up park will continue to put on yoga and other sports activities on Thursday mornings until September 5.
